The line graph illustrates how much the three most important fuels – petroleum, natural gas, coal produced in the UK over the period from 1981 to 2000.
Overall, Petroleum initially dominated production in the UK all the period, but experienced a significant decline by 1990. In contrast, Natural gas demonstrated a consistent upward trajectory throughout this period , while Coal’s production remained relatively stable before 1986 but then saw a notable decline.
In 1984, Petroleum produced 140 energy units making it the leading producer among the three fuels. However, this figure marked a dramatic decline of 40 energy units .But Petroleum remained the dominant fuel throughout the period. Meanwhile, Natural gas’s production exhibited a steady increase, rising from a mere 40 energy units in 1981 to a peak of 100 energy units by 2000.
Between 1983 and 1986, Coal’s production shows dramatic decline by approximately 39 energy units, yet it staged a remarkable recovery in 1986, with output soaring to nearly 60 energy units. However, Coal’s level of production steadly decline by 2000.
