Overall, cars were the most popular means of transport among British, German, Korean and Australian tourists, whereas Japanese tourists preferred air travel and coaches. In addition, ferry travel was considerably more common among British and German tourists than by the other nationalities.
Among British tourists, cars were the most commonly used form of transport, accounting for approximately 60%, while air travel and ferries were used by around 36% each. By contrast, only 18% travelled by coach. Similarly, German tourists showed a preference for cars at just over 50%, followed closely by ferries at 48%. Coach travel was again the least popular option, at 20%. 5% lower than air travel.
In contrast, Japanese tourists preferred air travel and coaches, at 53% and 51%, while only around 25% travelled by car. Ferry travel was the least common option, at 10%. Among Korean and Australian tourists, cars remained the most popular transport, at roughly 50% and 45%. By comparison, ferries were used by much smaller proportions of people in both countries. However, coach travel accounted for around 40% in Korea, compared with only 8% in Australia.
