The given graphs illustrate Australians’ cinema attendance according age, frequency and the percentage of population. The surveyed interval was between 1996 and 2000.
The intial impression from the first chart that the number of average visits decreased, yet the percentage of movie-goers had a reverse pattern. It is also noteworthy that all the age groups followed a similar trend, in which elders aged 50 and above least favored the cinemas while people from 14 – 24 years old were the most fond.
Regarding cinema visits of all age groups, starting at 62% in 1996, the proportion of population attending moviea increased significantly to 72% in 1997. It then remained stable at 72% until the end of this period, despite a minimal drop to 70% in 1999. The average of moviegoers frequently in 1996 stood at 10.3.
After a small increase to 11.1 in 1997, the figure underwent a slight decrease to around 8.3 in the three next years.
Taking a closer inspection of the second chart, at the beginning of the phase, 15% of the 14-24 years old spectators travelled cinema, followed by an unsteadiness and reaching about 18% in 2000. Similar changes, but to a lesser extent, were seen in 25-35, 35-49 years old and senior groups with the figure from 14%, 12% and 10% in 1996 to 17%, 15% and 14% in 2000, respectively.
