The line graph illustrates the standard of height of male in Denmark, West Europe countries (Great Britain and France) and the USA from 1775 to 1975.
Overall, all of the countries rose with some fluctuations, but Denmark’s proportion increased significantly. Denmark became the leader by the end of the analysed period, overtaking the USA and UK.
Generally, in 1775 in the USA average height was approximately 167 cm, but this proportion fluctuated significantly until 1875. From 1875 men’s height rapidly rose to 180 cm. Secondly, in 1775 in the UK medium height was about 166 cm, however, its ratio increased to nearly 168 cm and then dropped to 163 cm. Despite this, in 1875 its proportion dramatically increased to 180, and thus caught up with the USA.
In 1775, the Danes’ height was just 162 cm, while the Frenchman’s height was 2 cm less. Until 1875 in Denmark there were noticeable fluctuations, but after 1875 it overtook the USA and Britain and became the leader (around 185 cm). However, the French’s height changed (160-163cm), but not as important as in other countries. In 1870 its ratio gradually grew up to around 172 cm, however, that is not enough to catch up with the other countries. Thus, France stayed at the bottom, while Denmark reached its peak.
