The bar chart demonstrates the number of people got married and divorced over 30 years in general and the marital status of adult in the USA in particular in 1970 and 2000.

Overall, adult Americans almost decided to get married the most in 1970 and 2000. While, the figure of people who got married and divorced in total population had the downward trend over 16 years.

From 1970 to 2000, the number of marriages in the USA was higher than divorces. Over the following 30 years, however, people got married continuously decreased about 2.5 to 2 million, whereas divorces had the small upward trend from 1 to around 1.4 million in 1980 and decreased to reach the same figure in 1970.

In 1970, the percentage of adult got married was 70, which higher than it in 2000 about 10%. On the other hand, the porpotion of people decided to never get married increased from around 15% in 1970 to 20% in 2000. The number of people got divorced was the lowest from 1% to 9% in both 1970 and 2000.
