The graph illustrates how the number of teenagers in the UK who followed the vegetarian diet over the period from 1980 to 2020.
Overall, at the beginning the number of individuals fluctuated at a relatively low level before sharply rising towards the end. Although the figures showed a series of rises and falls, the amount of vegetarian youngsters increased sharply after 2015, reaching its peak at 2020.
In 1980, around 200,000 youth were vegetarian. The number rose gradually in 1980s to approximately 250,000 before later on it fluctuates in the end of 1980s and early 1990s. In the late 1990s, there was a more noticeable increase when the figure climbed to nearly 400,000 in 2000. Although the upward trend was later on followed by a decline, with the figures falling back to about 250,000 in 2005.
By 2005 to 2015, the figures remained relatively stable with a slight fluctuations. After 2015, there was a dramatic rise and by 2020 the number of UK teenagers following a vegetarian diet had sharply risen to almost 900,000.
