Overall, from 1980 to 2020, the proportion of adolescents who followed a vegetarian diet significantly increased from its lowest point of just over 170000 individuals to a peak of approximately 940000.
Between 1980 to 1995, the number of individuals who went on a vegetarian diet fluctuated. In 1995, there was a rapid increase in this number, reaching around 400000 in 2000. From 2000 onwards, it steadily decreased, reaching a low point of about 160000 in 2008.
From 2008 to 2010, there was a moderate increase in the proportion of youth who went on this specific diet. During the following five year period, this number levelled off by approximately 200000. In 2015, there was a surge in the proportion of vegetarian diet followers and reached a peak of just over 900000 individuals in 2020.
