The graph demonstrates the attendance of the six world art galleries in 2011.
Overall, the Louvre (France) dominated that year, while the State Hermitage in Russia had the lowest number of visitors. The gap between the most and least visited museums was significantly high.
In more detail, the number of visitors to the Louvre reached just under 9 million in 2011, whereas several museums did not reach even a half of that number. For example, each of the National Museum of Korea, the Museo del Prado (Spain) and the State Hermitage was visited by nearly 3 million people. Moreover, these three museums were not as popular as the Metropolitan Museum (USA) and British Museum (UK), which were visited by twice as many people.
It is worth noting that the Metropolitan Museum and the British Museum had almost the same number. Exactly 6 million people visited the Metropolitan Museum, while for the British Museum the number was slightly lower, approximately 5.8 million. Therefore, the US museum ranked second in attendance.
