The bar chart shows the percentage of households that had different items in one country in 2001 and 2008.
Overall, most items became more popular in 2008, especially new technologies such as mobile phones and the internet.
In 2001, many houses had traditional goods such as telephones, microwaves, and CD players. The telephone was the most common, with about 90% of homes having one. Microwaves were in around 80% of houses, and CD players were in about 75%. By 2008, the number of homes with microwaves and CD players increased slightly, but telephone ownership dropped a little, given that more people started using mobile phones instead.
Modern items such as mobile phones and internet connections saw a big rise. Mobile phones went up from 25% in 2001 to 80% in 2008. Internet access also became more common, growing from only 10% to 40%. Home computers increased from about 40% to 70%. Dishwashers were not very popular but still rose from 20% to 40%.
