Illustrated in the line charts are the trends of three boys’ and girls’ names which are currently popular in the UK from 1925 to 2000.
Generally, the girls’ names remain stable until 1975, then increase at the same rate after that year. However, the boys’ names show random trends for each name.
In more detail, girls’ names, Sophia and Isabella, show the same trends. Those names were almost not used until 1975. Then it increased until reaching 9 to 10 thousand people in 2000. The trend for “Emily” also shows the same rate as the other names, but the starting point is different. “Emily” is more popular even since 1925, which reached 1,8 thousand people. In 1975, it also followed the other names’ increased trends, which gradually reached 10 thousand people in 2000.
Similarly, the boys’ name, Alexander, shows a steady trend until 1975, then it increased until the same number of the other girls’ names. In contrast, “Daniel” shows a significant upward trend until 1975. However, it remained steady and even slightly decreased to the same number as the other boys’ names, Alexander and Oliver.
In summary, those boys’ and girls’ popular names started to be popular since 1975, except for the boys’ name Alexander, which has been popular since 1925.
