The pie charts provide data on the percentages of tourists from the UK to Spain by age over a period of 20 years starting from 1983.
Overall, despite some fluctuations, there were increases in the percentages of 0-15, 16-24 and 55+ age groups, while decreases were seen in the figures for other categories. Noticeably, although the rates of visitors aged from 34 to 54 declined, this group made up the largest proportion throughout the timeline. In addition, in the twentieth year, the 55+ surpassed the 25-34 age group, becoming the second most common age range that travelled from the UK to Spain after the 34-54.
Examining individuals specifically, between 1983 and 2003, the 0-15 age group rate grew slightly from nearly 10% to 12%. Meanwhile, within the same duration, there was a remarkable surge in the proportion of visitors from 16 to 24 years old, which was recorded at approximately 4% in the first year and 15% in the final year. Similar to the previous groups, Spain witnessed an upward trend in the rate of UK tourists aged 55 and above, increasing from 16% to 26%.
In contrast, in spite of being the most common age group visiting Spain, the 34-54 percentage significantly dropped from 50% to 35% between 1983 and 2003. Likewise, the figure for those who were around 25 and 34 years old was observed with the same trend, which showed that this rate decreased from 20% to 12%.
