The diagram shows how wool is manufactured from sheep fleece.

Overall, the production of wool consists of a number of stages, starting with shearing sheep and finishing with yarn being formed into balls for further use.

At the first stage, sheep are shorn in order to remove the fleece. The collected fleece is then washed thoroughly to eliminate dirt and other impurities. After being cleaned , the wool is dried before moving on to the next step.

Once dry, the wool fibres are processed using a carding machine , which combs them into a loose sheet. This sheet is subsequently twisted into a rope like form known as sliver. In the folllowing stage, the sliver is stretched and further twisted to produce a thin strand of yarn. Finally, the yarn is wound into balls of wool, ready to be used in textile production.
