The charts illustrate how long New Year’s resolutions usually last and the main reasons why people fail to keep them.
Overall, most resolutions are abandoned relatively early, and the most common reason for failure is a loss of motivation. Only a small proportion of people ultimately achieve success.
Looking at how long resolutions last, about 20% of people quit in the first week. A much larger group give up within the first month. By the time two years have passed, most resolutions have already failed. Only a small percentage continue after two years, and very few people fully achieve their goals.
Regarding the reasons for failure, losing motivation accounts for the largest proportion at 35%. Being too busy is the second most common factor, affecting 28% of people. A change in goals or priorities explains 18% of failures, while the remaining 19% are attributed to other reasons. Overall, motivational and lifestyle-related factors play a more significant role than external circumstances.
