Overall, all countries experienced an upward trend during this period. The percentage of female members of parliament in Germany was almost the largest from 2000 to 2012.
Looking at the graph in more detail, in 2000 nearly one out of three members was female, and it was the highest figure in this year. Then, the percentage of German female participants in parliament increased steadily every year to approximately 37%. Besides that, the figure in France also experienced a regular upward trend from a quarter to 32% between 2000 and 2012. When it comes to Italy, the female parliamentarians occupied about 26.5% in 2000. After that, these members increased sharply and reached 39%, which was the biggest figure of chart, in the final year.
Regarding Belgium, the proportion of female members of parliament increased rapidly from 17% to about 24% between 2000 and 2008 and decreased slightly to 23% for the rest of time scale. Finally, there were only 3% female parliamentarians in UK; however, this figure experienced a dramatic upward trend during the period and reached the same level as Belgium in the last year.
