The line chart below illustrates Australia’s employment rate in four different industries over 30 years.

Overall, it is evident that all industries had mostly a similar trend of increasing over 30 years, except for the retail industry.

At the beginning of 1958, the total employment rate for all industries stood between around 8% to 12%, considering that retail was the highest figure among them. In the following year, they all gradually rose by almost 2%, except for Healthcare which jumped by 15%. However, they all had a joint level rate between 20-26% in the year 2000.

From 2001 to 2015, the retail industry experienced a significant dropped through the period. Starting in 2001, the figure declined by 3%. From there on, the figure gradually decreased by 5% per year, resulting in a final total of 10% in 2015, which was the lowest employment rate at that time. On the other hand, other industries which are healthcare, consulting, and technology mostly continue to increase over the remaining 15 years. Although healthcare and consulting had increased by around 4-5% each year, resulting in a total of 60% for healthcare, which was the highest employment rate by 2015.
