The line graph illustrates the proportions of cinema attendance by four different age groups in the US from 2000 to 2011. Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that attendance by all age groups increased notably during the period. The most frequent visitors were young adults, followed by teenagers and adults, while the lowest rates of attendance belonged to the 35 and over age bracket.
The 15 – 24 age cohort stood at 15%, leading other demographics. The figures grew steadily to 31% until 2004 and then fluctuated between 30% and 50% from 2005 to 2007 before ending the period with 52%. In contrast, the attendance to the cinema by those in the 35 and over age demographic was marginal but still increased steadily over the years, commencing with 1% and finishing at a high of 13%.
The figures for the 7-14 and 25-35 age cohorts were similar throughout the period. The former started with 10 %, which was twice as high as the latter group (5%). The indicator increased erratically and reached its peak at 38% in 2009 and finished at 30% in 2011. The figures for the latter group rose steadily, prior ton intersecting with those for the 7-14 age bracket twice at 12%, and finally, ended the period with an identical 30% in 2011.
