The line graph provided illustrates both the real and the predict numbers of citizens upon the age of 65 in three countries (Japan, Sweden, and the USA) from 1940 to 2040.
Overall, it is evident that the USA and Sweden depict the similar trend in most of the time in the past, except the time period from 2000 to 2020. Moreover, in the predicted section after 2020, Sweden’s number become higher than the USA’s. Whereas, Japan, as the only Asia country among these locations demonstrate the least proportion of elderly aged over 65 until 2030.
Looking in detail, the USA displayed the top proportion with a steady growth (8%-15%) in the first 40 years of the whole period, and then remained almost the same at about 15% from 1980 to 2020. However, it is predicted a rapidly rocked to its peak at 28% from 2030 to 2040. The follwing is Sweden, gradually went up by 6 percent until the year around 2000, and started to be the leading volume untill 2030, accounting from 15% to 22%. In the last 10 years of the period, Swden climbed from around 18% in 2030 to 26% in 2040.
Regarding Japan, it’s initial growth happened in 1990 at approximately 3%, and then remained an increasing pattern for the rest of the period. While, 2030 is the turning point for Japan, from the year on, Japan becomes the highest proportion of all the countries, ended at about 28%, which is about 5% higher than the least number.
