Overall, it can be seen that all five means of communication experienced an increases throughout the period, with cellular service enjoying the most dramatic growth to become the most used from 2002 onwards.
Cellular and Internet services gained popularity over time. The number of cellular subscribers stood at around 5 million, after which it experienced a dramatic growth to reach a peak of 60 million by the end of the period. Similar changes can be seen in the number of people using the Internet, which jumped from just under 5 million in 1998 to north of 20 million in the final year.
The remaining services witnessed much smaller changes. The number of subscribers to landline services started at roughly 15 million, then grew to nearly 20 million before experiencing a small dip to under 20 million in 2008. Similarly, not until 2002 did people start using fixed broadband and mobile broadband, and the figures for these two services increased slightly, reaching 4 million each in the final year.
