The line chart compares the percentage of parliament who are female in Germany, Spain, Belgium, the UK and Italy.
Overall, the data of five countries experienced an upward trend. To be specific, the figure of Spain and Belgium rose sharply from 2000 to 2004 while that of the UK and Italy skyrocketed from 2004 onwards.
In the beginning, it is clear that there was a slight increase in the percentage of female members in Germany and Italy, with roughly 31.5% and 3.5% respectively. In contrast, a significant increase in Spain and Belgium was recorded, which surged by more than 10% in each nation. Meanwhile the UK was the only one who remained stable at 16% from 2000 to 2004.
Next, whereas the percentage of female numbers in Italy jumped by 20% from 2004 to the end of survey period, the figure of the UK showed a lower percentage point with 8%, although two data had a similar 24% at the end and both ranked fourth. Despite many fluctuations from other countries, Spain still placed at second position at 35%. Belgium, on the other hand, reached its peak at 39% in 2012 and became the highest among all categories while Germany started from the first rank then fell behind others by representing a negligible difference to 33% from 31.2% throughout the years.
