This graph presents the percentage of female participants of parliament in Germany, Spain, Belgium, UK and Italy between 2000-2012.
Overall, it can be seen that the percentage of females who are members of parliament in five European countries generally steadily increased during this period. Similarities between Belgium and Spain in 2000 to 2008 were recorded in the sector of female participants of parliament.
Initially, around 2.5% Italian female members of parliament in 2000, before this figure stabilized in the next 4 years. Subsequently, there was a massive growth in this sector to 23% in 2008. Similarly, an increase was recorded in that of the UK when it first began the period at 17% then grew to 23% in 2012, which coincided with the Italian female members in 2012.
By the same token, it was Germany that started at the highest position with roughly 31% female members of parliament in 2000, before slightly developing with approximately 33% in 2012. Belgium recorded around over 23% of women members in 2000, which soared to 35% in the next 4 years, reaching the highest rank in 2012 with rouhgly 38%. Following that, The UK witnessed a surge between 2000 and 2004 ( around 27% to just under 36%), before slightly dipping to approximately 35% in the next 8 years.
