Ar the beginning of the 1950s jazz was the most popular before being overtaken by rock, staying the hit genre throughout most of the decades until it started to slowly decline with hip-hop shooting up and surpassing rock from 1990-1999. Hip-hop started out the lowest with a gradual increase every decade starting from 1970 to 1979.
Rock was the most listened to genre with 55%, which was more than double the competition. Jazz started out the highest of the three, but slowly started to decrease until reaching its lowest point at around 47 songs, then shot up again to just above 165 songs. At the end of the period jazz went from the highest to the lowest, hip-hop was the only genre to rise without ever falling, reaching its highest number of hit songs at around 290 at the end of the period.
