In addition, the evolution of hip hop songs is impressive. Specifically, there were no hits until the 1960s, when they began to grow slowly and more considerably later, reaching to almost 300 songs in 1999. More generally, according to the pie chart, rock was the post popular music with a percentage of 55% overall. Then, jazz follows with 27% and with a small difference of 9%, there is hip hop in popularity of songs during 1950 to 1999.
In conclusion, it is evident that people’s preferences in music changes a lot through the years. Through the period 1950-1999, rock music dominated most years, jazz declined but recovered and hip-hop showed a steady rise, eventually taking the lead after 1987 in hit songs.
