Overall, the main UK citizens went to trip for holidays and the number of trips for holidays was the high of the line graph in 1998. While the number of family visits was the lowest in the beginning, it increased over the time and ranked second most common purpose of trips in 2001. Unlike business and other purposes decreased and other purposes was the least visited purpose.
In terms of the number of trips to other countries for holidays was the dominant with 30 millions trips out of total number of trips 47 millions in 1989. This number increased to 35 millions out of 55,5 millions total number in 1992 and had risen by 5 millions within 3 years which overall number of trips was 68 millions. In 1998, the number of trips for holidays surged to 50 millions out of total 73,5 millions of trips and that was the high of the chart, before decreasing to 40 millions in 2001 (61 millions).
When it comes to business trips made up 9 millions in the initial year, and had increased by 1 million till 1995, before declining to prior figure in 2001. For family visits constitute 5 millions in 1989 and remained unchanged over the three years before rising to 7 millions, 10 millions and 11 milllions in 195, 1998, and 2001, respectively. The number of trips for other purposes was 5 millions in 1989 and increased to 6 millions in 1992, 7 millions in 1995. There was a moderate fall to 5 millions in 1998 and recorded 2 millions trips in 2001.
