The line graph compares the expenditure on books in Germany, France, Italy and Austria between 1995 and 2005. Overall, the amount of money spent on books witnessed an upward trend in four countries, and Germany had the highest expenditure over the period.
To begin with, Germany stood at 80 million which were was higher than that of France, at just about 55 million . Noticeably, the book expenditure the expenditure on books in Germany increased significantly to 90 million in 1999, followed by a slight fall to 85 million in 2003 before hitting a peak of 95 million in 2005. In comparison with France, this country grew sharply and remained stable at 70 million in 2003, at which point it rose slightly to 75 million in the following two years
Turning to Italy and Austria, the amount of money spent in both countries started at 50 and 30 million respectively. It is worth pointing out that there was a steady growth to 55 million in the former, after which it decreased slightly and increased significantly to 61 million in 2005 whereas the latter climbed up to 71 million at the end of the period after a growth and a fall
