The proportion of overweight rates for nine OECD countries in the past, present and estimated rates for the future are illustrated in the line graph.
Overall, for all the countries, the proportion overweight over the years has increased and keeps increasing. The USA has the most overweight rates amongst the countries, while Korea has the least percentage of the same.
Since around 1983, the proportion overweight was measured for USA with around 47% in that year. This then decreased to about 43% in 1979 before gradually increasing till the year 2030, where the proportion will be around three-quarters of the total overweight rate.Additionally, Australia, Spain, England, and France had similar trend to each other where all the countries’ proportion expands after the year 2000 till 2030.
Furthermore, Canada started to record the information from 1995 and the rate of overweights rose and will keep rising gradually from just under 50% in 1995 to around 55% in 2030. Austria, on the other hand, saw a steady percentage initially from 1990s till 2010s and then will begin to shoot up to around 45% on 2030. Lastly, Korea and Italy have a similar trend with Korea projected to have about 35% and Italy having around 45% of proportion overweight.
