The line graph compares the percentage of the UK population aged over 4 who listened to radio and watched television throughout the day from October to December 1992.
Overall, radio was mostly preferred during the morning, whereas television attracted a much larger audience in the evening. Both media formats recorded their lowest participation in the early morning hours.
At 1:00 AM, both figures were very low, remaining under 5%. Radio audience grew sharply from 6:00 AM, hitting a peak of about 27% around 8:30 AM. After this, listenership steadily declined throughout the day, ending near 5% by midnight, despite a slight spike around 4:30 PM.
On the other hand, television viewership stayed under 10% until late morning. It began climbing after 11:00 AM, overtaking radio at around 1:00 PM (15%). TV audiences continued to rise significantly, peaking at nearly 45% between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM, before dropping sharply to 15% at midnight.
