The following line graph illustrates the rate of workers in four (service, manufacturing, agriculture and mining) sectors in Australia between 1900 and 2000. Measures are given in percentages.
Overall, it can be seen that all trends, except for the service, showed a downward trend. There were the lowest number of workers in mining industry, while service industry was the most popular during the given period.
Proportion for service industry experienced a great start at approximately 50% in 1900, then remained stable at 60% for 20 years from 1940 to 1960, before increasing significantly to almost 80% in 2000. In comparison, trend for mining sector showed the least percentage in 1900 at only about 5%. Subsequently, trend declined slighly in 1940 to roughly 3%, then continue dropping to just over 0% at the end of the period.
In terms of employees in manufacturing and agricultural industry, proportions showed roughly equal measures at 15% and 10% respectively in 1900. Both trends rised to nearly 25% and 15% in 1940, before declining sharply to just below 10% and 8% in 2000.
