Overall, we can see that Facebook saw significant increase in the number of active subscribers over the given period. On the other hand, Twitter slightly rise in the total amount of users in the same period.
In 2010, Facebook active population stood at 600 million. While Twitter active members saw less than a million in the same year. The figure rose to around 800 million of active users on Facebook with Twitter pulling less than one quarter of the figure which stood around 150 million. The number continued to increase with about 200 million year on year in the given period. By the end of 2015, the number has risen to 1600 million of active subscribers. on the other hand, Twitter’s number of active users, climbed slightly to around 150 million in the year 2011. Two years later, the figure was doubled to approximately 300 million and remained stabilized till 2015. Meanwhile, WeChat in 2012, recorded slightly under 200 million which is around the same number with Twitter’s follower. The number doubled to 400 million in the year 2013. The figure continued to rise and in 2015 the number stood under 800 million subscribers.
WhatsApp and Instagram started in the year 2013 with 400 million and 200 million subscribers respectively. WhatsApp subscribers rocketed to around 800 million in the year 2014. By year 2015, the number rose to slightly under 1000 million active members. However, Instagram population grew to around 400 million in 2014 and remained plateaued till 2015.
