The line graph illustrates the number of users (in millions) actively using social media and messaging applications from 2010 to 2015.
Overall, all social networks rose over the six years, with Facebook being the most significant.
Facebook was the oldest service out of all the provided applications and had a established user base of 600 million in 2010. Its popularity soared in the next five years with total users of 1600 million in 2015. Twitter, on the other hand, was established in 2010 and gained around 100 million users in its first year. Since then, it has progressed slowly with around 300 million users in 2015.
Similarly, WeChat was introduced in 2011 and had around 200 million users in 2013. After that, it almost tripled its monthly user base to 600 million in 2015. The two newest services are WhatsApp and Instagram, established in 2013. Whatsapp sad greater success than Instagram in its initial years. In 2013, Instagram had around 180 million users compared to 400 million users of WhatsApp. While Instagram could only gain 200 million new users by 2015, in the same time period, WhatsApp gained about 400 million new users.
