In 1990 France welcomed approximately 45 million tourists, compared with 40 million in Japan. Over the years, France reached about 55 million tourists in 2000, with Spain rising from 30 million to climbed 40 million during the same period. In contrast, japan showed a slightly improvement by reaching a roughly 42 million visitors.
After 2000, the number of visitors rose in France, reaching 70 millions visitors in 2010. By contrary, figures decrease gradually in Japan, the numbers of tourists declined from 40 million in 2005 to 35 by the end of the period. Spain followed almost similar trend. In 2005 the figures showed 50 million tourists and finishing the period by 75 million visitors.
