Overall, the number of tourists in France and Spain increased significantly, while the total tourists in Japan decreased over the years. France maintained the highest number of tourists over these 3 decades.
In the year 1990, there were about 45 million and 30 million visitors who visited France and Spain respectively. In France, the number of tourists increased gradually until it reached 60 million tourists in the year 2005, before it jumped significantly in 2010. Moreover, the number rose gradually afterwards, reaching about 82 million visitors in 2020. Similarly, the number of tourists visiting Spain rose gradually in the first decade, achieving 40 million tourists in total. In the next two decades,the number skyrocketed, where it increased by about 35 million tourists compared to the year 2000.
In Japan, there were 40 million tourists in 1990. The number increased slightly for the next ten years. However, in the year 2005 onwards, the number of visitors in Japan experienced a consistent decline, where it reached about 35 million tourists only by the end of the year 2020.
