The given line chart illustrates changes in the number of tourists who visited the UK for different purposes, over a period of 20 years, from 1989 to 2009.
According to the chart, there was an upward trend for all kinds of purposes. In addition, going for holiday had the most fluctuating tendency.
In 1989, people came to the UK for holiday was approximately 7 million, much more higher when compared to come for business with 5 million and meet friends and relatives with 3,5 million. From 1989 to 1994, the figure grew steadily to 9 million, but it soon declined to the former figure. By 2009, the holiday figure was exactly 9 million, despite all the minor fluctuations.
Similarly, both the two other categories had the same trend with the holiday figure, but in the lesser degree. In 1989, the figures for business and meeting friends and relatives were 5 million and 3,5 million respectively. After 5 years, in 1994, the figures of those purposes had met at the same point, which was 4 million. After all the rise and fall, the figures in 2009 were 7 million for business and 5 million for meeting friends and relatives, ending the period with a growth in the total for all purposes.
