The chart compares sales of DVDs and tickets in the United States and the rest of the world between 2001 and 2010.
Overall, it is clear that most of the income comes from DVDs; however, other income comes from cinema sales. In the world (outside the USA), DVDs sell more compared to the USA, but most people buy tickets from North American cinemas.
Turning to the details, DVD sales increased by around $2 billion in both places in 2003; furthermore, DVD sales saw a sudden increase of about $4 billion. However, DVD sales in North America and internationally had a gradual decline of about $2 billion between 2004 and 2005. Despite this, DVD sales in both places increased slightly every year by the end of the period.
Looking at the other details, income from cinema sales in both places grew slightly until 2003. Nevertheless, internationally, the income from selling tickets had an enormous climb of $4 billion, but in North America this indicator dropped below $10 billion. Both cinema sales increased minimally every year until the end of the period shown in the chart.
