The line graph shows the cost for watching films. The pie charts show the shift in the percentage of market share among the three types.
Overall, the average cost of all three different ways of watching movies rose over the given period. Although DVD renting was the most popular choice in the initial year, it was eventually suppressed by downloading movies later.
In terms of cost, cinema tickets were the most expensive option, starting at £9 in 2005 and steadily rising to £14 by 2011. Similarly, the price of DVDs followed an upward trend, increasing from £6 to £8 during the same period. In contrast, legal downloads began at £7, making them the second most expensive at the beginning, but their cost dropped to £3 by 2007 before rising again to approximately £9 by 2011.
On the other hand, the market share of all three options changed significantly over the period. In 2005, DVD rentals dominated the market, accounting for nearly 60% of movie viewership. However, this figure dropped sharply by 33% by 2011, making it the second most preferred option. Cinema visits represented 36% of the market in 2005, but this share declined by half over the six-year span. In contrast, legal downloads experienced a dramatic rise, increasing from just 5% in 2005 to 56% in 2011, becoming the most popular method by the end of the period.
