In 1989, the number of international travelers going to the UK to rest were about 6.5 millions, then it rose significantly to around 9 millions in the next five years before undergoing a consistently decrease within the decade later. Ultimately, this figure recovered the previous level seen in 1994.
As far as the remaining purposes are concerned, these both aims started with the modest figures, at 5 millions and 3.5 millions, respectively. From then on, while the quantity of abroad residents coming to the UK for working gradually, that for visiting relationships reduced steadily within the first five years of the period. Later, the figure for visiting relationships still continued its previous trajectory, whereas that for businessmen had a reverse trend and these both goals experienced an upward trend constantly later. Indeed, in spite of surpassing holiday in 2004, they lowered moderately to below 7 millions and over 6 millions, namely serving work and meeting friends and relatives by 2009.
