The line chart below presents data concerning the variation of the proportion of cinema-goers of different age groups who visit the cinema no less frequently than once per month in a particular country during the period of 1978 to 2008.
Overall, there was a significant variation in age distribution of moviegoers across different years, with the highest rates occurring in teenagers and young people within the age range of 14 to 24. the percentage of more senior film viewers aged over 50 ranked last in terms of heading to the cinema for movie- watching at least once monthly.
In detail, when analyzing moviegoers under 24, starting at 90%, the percentage for film-viewers of this group slightly increased to 92% before it dropped abruptly to 85% in 2008. although there were minor fluctuations, people aged 14 to 24 still remained the dominant force of total moviegoers in this country during 30 years. As for the film-viewers between the ages of 25 and 34, the year of 1978 to 1988 witnessed a sharp fall, and then the lowest point of 71% took place in 1988, followed by a considerable rise over the next twenty years.
In addition, the proportion of cinema-goers between the age of 36 and 50 showed a stable upward trend and reached 71% in 2008. People over 50 showed the least interest in monthly movie-viewing experience in the cinema. To be specific, it only accounted for 45% which was half of that of the people aged 14 to 24. however, after 1988, more people with advanced age were willing to see movie in cinemas at least once a month. The percent of people over 50 increased to 70% in1998 and also remained relatively consistent in the following a decade.
