The line graph illustrates the proportion of spending on five categories, namely food, leisure, clothing, transport, and energy in a European region between 1960 and 2000.
Overall, food experienced the most significant decrease, while, leisure, and clothing showed moderate changes. By contrast, transport remained consistently higher throughout the period and energy remains lower throughout the timeframe.
At the beginning of the period, spending on food stood at around 32% in 1960. It then declined gradually, reaching 25% by 1980. After this point, the figure fell sharply, before ending the period at below 15% in 2000. Meanwhile, leisure began at 20% in 1960, which was lower than food. It than changed more moderately, falling to 15 in 1960, and finished at nearly 12% by 2000.
Turning to the remaining trends, clothing, started at 10% in 1960, and experienced a graduall drop, reaching approximately 8% in 1980, and reaching 5% by end of the period. Similarly, transport showed huge change, starts at around 9% in 1960, and increase the throughout the period ends at 15% by 2000. By contrast, energy begans at 5% in 1960, and declined slightly, but consistently remained below the other categories and ends at 1% by 2000.
