The line graph compares the number of three types of crime in two British countries in 1970 and 2005.
Overall, it is immediately apparent that all three types of crime experienced growth in the number of incidents. Additionally, car theft was the most frequent crime throughout the entire period.
At the beginning of the period, at 0.4 million incidents, the highest number of crimes were committed in the car theft category. Ranking second, the number of house burglaries accounted for half of the figure for car theft. Meanwhile, street robbery was not recorded at all in 1970.
The number of car thefts increased steadily to 1 million from 1970 to 1990, followed by a sharp rise of 0.6 million in 1995 and a sudden drop to 1 million by the end of the period. By contrast, the volume of house burglaries increased steadily to approximately 0.7 million from 1970 to 1995 and declined to 0.5 million by 2005. Prior to increasing to 0.2 million in 2000, there were no recorded incidents of street robbery in the first 20 years.
