The line chart illustrates the number of visitors in millions who move to and from the UK in 1979 to 1999, while the table chart shows countries that citizens of the UK visited most in 1999.
Overall, the number of visitors who came and left the UK and those that visited the UK increased in the given period of time. France on the other hand was fancied more as a travel destination by a majority of the UK travellers. Both visits had a similar upward growth trend, however, the gap between the UK tourists and tourists from other countries visiting the United Kingdom continued to grow
In1999, approximately 10 million people left the UK for other countries. Up until 1984, there was a slow but gradual increase in the number of travellers. Thereafter, there was a sharp rise from about 18 million in 1984 to nearly 63 million in 1999. There were 10 million visitors who came to the UK in 1989. This number gradually went up to a high of almost 28 million in 1999.
France was the most preferred destination as it received a total of roughly 11 million visitors from the UK, whereas Turkey was the least travelled to, as only an approximate number of 3 million visitors visited this country.
