The presented line graphs compare the use of transport in five different Australian cities in the years 2000 and 2010.
Overall, there were many noticeable fluctuations in the proportion of public transportation usage in all cities except for Canberra, while the usage of private cars experienced growth in all cities over the period. Notably, the most significant growth was recorded in private car usage.
Starting with public transportation, the proportion of people who live in Sydney shows the highest percentage of public transport usage, at 20% in 2000, while this figure experienced a few decreases to nearly 15%, except for growth in the beginning of the period. Perth followed, also showing nearly the same trend, with about 15%, except for growth in the middle of the period. The figure for Adelaide experienced a few fluctuations, starting with 13% and ending with nearly 11% transport usage. However, there is a similar trend in the proportion of transport usage in Canberra and Melbourne; they both remained unchanged, with the former accounting for 10% and the latter at 5%.
As for private car usage, the proportion of those using private cars in all cities experienced stable growth, and the highest percentage was true for Melbourne, starting with 80% in the first year and reaching almost 90% in the final year. In Canberra, 60% of people preferred to use private cars in 2000, while this figure experienced a sharp increase, representing 80% in 2010. Adelaide and Perth followed, starting with nearly the same percentage of private car usage, at about 40%, while the figure for Adelaide experienced significant growth, reaching nearly 60%, but the figure for Perth remained stable at the end of the period. However, there was a dramatic change in the proportion of private car usage in Sydney, starting with 5% in the initial year and ending with 25% in the final year.
