The two maps highlight the major developments that have taken place in the coastal city of Oakville, during 10 years started from 2010.
Overall, what stands out from both maps is that Oakville underwent significant urban transformation, became more modern and residential, with an increase in housing, educational institutions, and recreational facilities, while green spaces such as forests were removed.
In detail, if we look at the north of the city, one significant change has been that the forest in the north-east has been cut down and a cinema has been constructed in its place. Additionally, a university and student accommodation have been constructed, which did not exist in 2010. The old bus station that existed in 2010 was modernised and slightly repositioned in 2020.
In the central part of Oakville, the city centre remained, in 2020 saw the addition of an e-scooter rental scheme, promoting environmentally friendly transport. To the east, new flats were developed, while in the west, the library was being converted into the new houses. As for the southern coastline, the road near sea, once used by vehicles, was pedestrianised by 2020, and several bars and restaurants were added.
