The two maps illustrate the changes that took place in Freton between the year 1990 and 2012.
Overall, while the school, library and hospital remained unchanged, all the remaining infrastructure underwent significant changes. Additionally, these changes show that the town became more modern in order to meet the needs of society.
From 1990 to 2012, playing fields with trees in the Northern part of the town were demolished to make way for blocks of flats, whereas the hospital located near the playing fields with trees was expanded. Moreover, the trees on the bottom left corner were cleared to make way for a technopark. A bank on the left hand side was converted into a restaurant whilst the school and library were not changed over time.
Similarly, flats were constructed in the North of the town, while the houses on the right hand side were replaced by blocks of flats. Between 1990 and 2012, the cafe and the park in the centre were transformed into a hotel and golf course complex. Furthermore, the theatre was demolished and replaced by a cinema, while the shops were converted into a supermarket. These modifications show that Freton was transformed from a green zone into a modernized and commercialized area.
