The maps illustrate the changes that took place in the town of Frenton between 1990 and 2012.
Overall, Frenton experienced significant development, particularly in terms of housing and modern facilities. The most noticeable change was the construction of several blocks of flats, while the school remained unchanged throughout the period.
Looking first at the left side of the high street, the school, which was located in the north-west corner, stayed the same. In contrast, the bank in the west was removed and replaced by a restaurant. Similarly, the trees in the south-west were cleared to make way for a technopark. In the centre of this area, the playing fields and surrounding trees were replaced by blocks of flats, and the hospital was expanded.
Turning to the right side of the high street, further residential development can be seen, as new flats were built. The hotel in the east was demolished and replaced with apartment blocks. In the central area, the café and park were transformed into a hotel and a golf course. Finally, the theatre in the south and the shops in the south-east were removed to allow for the construction of a cinema and a supermarket, respectively.
