In 1957, the museum was relative small and was surrounded by a large garden with many trees. Inside the building, there was a national history exhibition as the largest area. There were also a local history room and a museum storeroom. Visitors would entered the museum through an entrance hall connected to the road by a pathway.
By 2007, the museum had been noticeably enlarged. The national history exhibition was replaced by a local history room in the centre of the building. Two new sections, namely a special exhibition room and an education centre, were added in the north side. The museum storeroom was removed and replaced with a museum shop, while a reception area and a cafe were introduced near the entrance gate.
Outside the museum, the garden became much smaller. The pathway leading to the entrance was also removed, and a large car park was constructed on the eastern side of the museum to provide easier access for visitors.
