The provided maps depict changes that have taken place in a particular town center from 1990 to the present time.
Overall, it is readily apparent that this town center has witnessed a number of modifications, the most important of which include better accessibility for pedestrians and the conversion of a number of residential facilities and amenities.
There is now a shopping mall located at the top of the center where there used to be a newsagent’s, a grocer’s, a baker’s, a butcher’s and a cafe. Smith Street, situated in the northern part of the map, allowed cars’ access in 1990; however, this street has been repurposed to become a walking- only lane.
Zebra crossings have been added on Oldfield and Green Street to cater for the demand of pedestrians getting to the town hall from the cafe in the most eastern part or the apartment block at the bottom of the area. Seven houses located on Green Street have all been demolished to make way for three apartment blocks, whereas one house on Oldfield Street has been turned into an apartment block. At the same time, the bank, which was situated on the right of the town center, has been replaced by a cafe. Other than those, the remaining amenities, including the childcare center, the bank in the top-right corner of the center, and the park, have remained intact throughout the period shown.
