The maps illustrate the current layout of an industrial area in the town of Norbiton and the proposed redevelopment of the site.
Overall, the area is planned to undergo a major transformation from a predominantly industrial zone into a mixed-use residential neighbourhood. While the central roundabout and the river to the north will remain, most factories will be replaced with housing, and a range of new amenities and transport links will be introduced.
At present, the industrial estate consists of a circular road connected to the main road in the south. Several factories are located around this roundabout, with the majority situated to the east along a short access road, while three others lie to the west. To the north, there is a river, beyond which stretches an area of farmland. No bridge currently crosses the river, and the only access to the site is from the southern road.
The proposed development significantly changes the function of the area. Almost all factories will be demolished and replaced by housing, which will be built both around the central roundabout and along the eastern road. In addition, a new medical centre will occupy the south-western part of the site, while a school will be constructed in the south-east. A playground is also planned in the north-eastern section to serve local residents. To improve accessibility, a second roundabout will be added at the southern entrance, and a new road extending northwards will cross the river via a bridge, providing access to additional housing on the opposite bank. Despite these extensive changes, the farmland to the north-east of the river will remain untouched.
