The map depicts how the Islip town center looks today and in the future.
Overall, there are going to be several changes. The most noticeable were the construction of a ring road, the increase of the town’s total area northward, and the appearance of more residential areas, most of which are expected to accommodate the town’s growing population.
As of the present day, there are a wide range of shops on both sides of a main road, whose two side roads near both ends provide access to a school and a park in the southwest and southeast of Islip, respectively. In the middle of the neighborhood are located two housing areas, and to the north of it is situated a rural region.
Turning to the prospective map, it can be seen that the function of the main road is set to be restricted to only pedestrians’ use. While the shopping complex to the south of this walking street will remain unchanged, the northern one will witness a modification, with most of its component parts either being turned into a bus station and a car park or demolished to make way for new houses which are connected with the ring road through a short path. The ring road is predicted to be built by joining the two side roads and gobbling up the countryside, enlarging the northern region of the town. The park will shrink, making room for new homes next to it.
