The given maps compare the extent to which the Islip town center will change in the development plan.
Overall, if the proposal is correct, the town will experience the transformation into a more residential area, along with many newly built facilities to cater to diverse needs. This is evidenced by the reconfiguration of the road system, complemented by the introduction of several amenities, such as a shopping center, bus station, and accommodations.
Looking first at the current layout, there is a road running from the west, through the heart of the town, to the east, and two rows of shops are built along this road. While the northern part features the countryside, the southern one is dedicated to the residential area, the school, and the park.
Shifting our attention to the redevelopment plan, the road will be reconfigured to form a dual carriageway, enclosing most facilities inside, except for the former school and housing zone in the south. Moving inside the ring-shaped road, the original northern row of shops will give its place to many new facilities, including a bus stop, a shopping center, and a car park, along with a new housing area. Across these amenities will be a pedestrian-only way, and one can access the new residential area via a small road branching off the carriageway. Focusing finally on the southern part of the dual carriageway, while the row of shops and the park will remain unchanged, the former housing area will be reduced in size to accommodate additional houses.
