The maps demonstrate the transformation and modernization of the town of Fosbury in two distinct years, namely 1980 and 2015. Overall, there were several noteworthy upgrades made to Fosbury’s suburbs over a span of 35 years, reflecting a cumulative shift from a rural landscape to a more developed urban area with increased infrastructure development.
The most remarkable alteration made by 2015 was the construction of a warehouse located in the southwest area of town, where old fields previously existed. In addition, there were relocation and modifications made of various facilities. For example, the park was relocated, and terraced houses were built in its place to make way for a new supermarket on the north-eastern side. Looking at the south side of town, the tennis court had been incorporated into a sports center adjacent to the small car park by 2015. Moreover, to make all of these amenities accessible to the residents, the grocer’s store and the block of flats had to be demolished to create space for a roundabout at the heart of town.
Although improvements were made to the neighborhood, some buildings remained untouched. The row of houses had remained in the same position over the years, tucked away in the far northwest of the outskirts. While the hotel opposite did not appear to be renovated, the view of the hotel was no longer obstructed by the small grocery shop that once stood in front of it.
In summary, the town underwent some modern features such as the development of industrial areas as well as improved residential, commercial, and recreational facilities.
