Overall, it is clear that the figures for overseas who came to the UK for 3 purposes exhibited an upward trend. Meanwhile, Holiday was the most reason chosen by foreign visitors throughout the period.
At the start of the period, Holiday visitors started at 6.5 million, slightly higher than Buisiness travelers who began at 5 million. The number of overseas toursist coming to the UK for holidays remained unchanged during the first five years of the period. In contrast, Buisiness travelers experienced a slight plunge to 4 million in 1994. Following this, both section saw a considerable increase, reaching 9.5 million for Holiday and 6.5 million for Buisiness in 1999. After that, Holiday witnessed a dramatic plunge to around 6.7 million in 2004. However, it rebounded significantly, reaching at 9 million in 2009. Whereas, the figure for foreign tourist coming to the UK for Buisiness fluctuated noticeably in the following years before declining steadily and ending at 6.5 million in 2009.
At the same time, the number of travelers visiting friends and relatives started at 3.5 million, which was the lowest figure among all sections. It experienced a steady rise to 6.5 million in 2004. Finally, it gradually fell throughout the last five years and ended at 6.3 million in 2009
